For the town of Salò tourism is certainly one of the main fields, which are on the basis of life both of its citizens and of the numerous Italian and foreign guests spending especially their summer time on Lake Garda. In particular German tourists traditionally choose the Garda as a suitable place, where they can relax, enjoy themselves and find different cultural interests. This is why the municipal administration has always arranged performances and important events, such as the Musical Summer of the Garda “Gasparo da Salò”. It is a festival of classical music started with Vittorio Pirlo in 1958, and since 1997 the most important classical groups have performed in the charming background of the Dome Square.

The area of the town of San Felice del Benaco is made up of morainal hills, which go from the Gulf of Salò to the Gulf of Manerba. It includes three small centres: San Felice, Portese and Cisano. The name San Felice seem to come from the Latin “sinux felix”, that is blessed small bay, or it may come from the names of the local saint protectors Felice, Adauto and Flavia. Portese, which is about one km far away from San Felice, is a small village, in the past inhabited mainly by fishermen. Its name derives from “portensis”, i.e. port/harbour, because it was called the port of Valtenesi. Till 1927 Portese was separeted from San Felice. The small village of Cisano is located on a promontory from which you can admire the suggestive landscape of the Gulf of Salò. The name probably dates back to the Latin word “Caesius” or “Caesa”, that is to say cut wood. This area was inhabited during the prehistory, as the remains on the isle Garda can prove.

There are different linguistic interpretations around the name Moniga: it may come from the Germanic word “Morn” (exposed to morning or to east), it may also go back to the presence of a temple dedicated to the Athenian godess “Diana Munichia”. Certain is that Moniga was already inhabited during the Bronze Age, as a lake-dwelling site in the area “Porto” proves.

Polpenazze del Garda is mainly an agricultural village. The typical and traditional cultivation is vine and olive growing. More than 50% of the whole vine production of Valtenesi with certificate of origin comes particularly from the vineyards of the area around Picedo. The main species of vine is Groppello followed, calculated in percentages, by Barbera, Marzemino and San Giovese, which together contribute to the production of the young and fruitful Chiaretto and of the more refined and pleasant Rosso Riviera. Polpenazze del Garda is also the main producer of olive oil of Valtenesi, which is considered one of the most prestigious Italian olive oils because of the balance of its organoleptic features. These products can easily be bought at the several producing farms, which sell also at retail and even at their oil mill.

Puegnago del Garda is perfectly set in the middle of the morainal hills of Valtenesi. From its dominant position, like a natural open air terrace in the sun, it offers a charming view on Lake Garda and on Mount Baldo.
If you arrive from the coastline, you will be attracted by soft hills covered with fertile vegetation; if you come from the inland through the roads among the hills, you will enjoy the view of woods, vineyards and small well cultivated fields.
Puegnago is a particular village not only for the beauty and amenity of its landscape, but also for the presence of numerous original inhabitants who are deeply linked to their land and who try to rediscover as well as mantain the local traditions. The small town is composed of six smaller centres far away from one another: Castello, Mura, Palude, Monteacuto, Raffa and San Quirico.

Thanks to its favourite natural position, the different historical periods have left in Sirmione so many signs that the town can still today offer archeologists and historians a lot of new discoveries and studies.
Hovewer, not only natural and historical-archeological attractions characterize Sirmione; in fact, since the Renaissance period the place was very popular for its warm and sulphurous thermal bath “La Bojola”, which springs from a depth of 250 metre on the eastern coast.
These thermal waters are applied in the treatment and prevention of otorhinolaryngology, bronchopulmonary, rheumatology, orthopaedy, dermatology and gynaecology diseases. In the year 2003 the centre “Aquaria” was opened in the area of Catullo, which offers the thermal baths as a physical source of well-being according to the old Roman traditions.
